Accessibility Statement

YourSpace is committed to making our website and apps usable by the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. This Statement describes the standards we target, the steps we take, and how to reach us if something is not working for you. It is published in accordance with the EU Accessibility Act (Directive 2019/882, effective 28 June 2025), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act, the UK Equality Act 2010, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and similar laws.

1. Conformance target

We target conformance with the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. We use WAI-ARIA where appropriate and follow APG patterns for custom components. Mobile clients follow the Apple Accessibility and Android Accessibility guidelines.

2. Measures we take

  • Semantic HTML and labelled controls; visible focus rings on every interactive element.
  • Keyboard support for posting, reacting, navigation, dialogs, and modals.
  • Screen-reader announcements for live regions (notifications, feed updates, toast messages).
  • Reduced-motion preference is respected — non-essential animation is disabled when prefers-reduced-motion: reduce is set.
  • Color contrast ratios meet or exceed WCAG 2.2 AA in both light and dark themes.
  • Alt text fields on uploaded images, captions on video, transcripts on audio where available.
  • Adjustable font scale, including support for the operating system's text-size and dynamic-type settings on iOS and Android.

3. Known limitations

We are actively improving the following areas: complex emoji combinations announced by some screen readers, the rich-text mention picker, and certain third-party embeds (e.g., Spotify, YouTube) that do not always honor our accessibility wrappers. We welcome reports.

4. Feedback & enforcement

If you encounter an accessibility barrier, emailaccessibility@joinyourspace.org. We aim to respond within 5 business days. EU residents may also contact the national enforcement body listed on the European Commission's accessibility portal. UK residents may escalate to the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

5. Assessment approach

We assess accessibility through a combination of automated tools (axe-core, Lighthouse), manual testing with VoiceOver, TalkBack, NVDA, and keyboard-only navigation, and third-party audits at least once per year.
